The Germantown Chorus performs at the Germantown Performing Arts Center (GPAC) and other public venues approximately 5-7 times per year, of which 2-3 are major performances. The Chorus Director provides the artistic vision of the Germantown Chorus and is responsible for the leadership and direction of rehearsals and performances by the Chorus. The Director will lead the Chorus in a variety of music covering all genres from mid-August through mid-May.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
- Conduct Chorus at regularly scheduled rehearsals on Monday nights, any special rehearsals, and at all performances.
- Work with accompanist to ensure professional level rehearsals.
- Select music to be performed at public performances and concerts, with review by the Board of Directors.
- Provide training in vocal and choral techniques to the Chorus.
- Assist in the planning and production of public performances and concerts of the Chorus in cooperation with the Board of Directors and directors of other area arts organizations.
- Represent, promote, and develop the Chorus in Germantown, TN, and the greater Memphis, TN, area, with other arts organizations, media, and the public.
- Conduct auditions and voice placement for Chorus members as needed. Audition and recommend soloists and other singers as needed by the Chorus. Audition and recommend candidates for accompanist as needed.
- Recruit and develop new members of the Chorus.
- Assist with all fundraising activities of the Chorus.
- Participate in meetings of the Board of Directors as an ex officio member.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in music required. Master’s degree preferred. Five (5) + years’ experience in conducting adult choral music preferred. Strong interpersonal and communications skills are necessary. Professional accreditation preferred.
Additional Information
The Chorus Director reports to the Board of Directors of the Germantown Chorus. The Director is an official representative of the Chorus and is expected to conduct himself/herself in a professional manner at all times. The Director may be assigned additional duties by the Board as necessary to carry out the mission of the Chorus.
The Director will be expected to sign a one year contract for the fiscal year from July 1, 2015, to June 30, 2016. The contract is subject to being extended on an annual basis by the Board of Directors. Terms of the contract are negotiable. Compensation is paid monthly and is competitive based on experience and qualifications.
